Encourage graduate students to register for Graduate Education and Life peer mentorship program

graduate education

Graduate and professional students are encouraged to join the popular Graduate Ed and Life Peer Mentorship program to either serve as mentors or mentees throughout the academic year.

Newer graduate students will be matched with those who are further along in their studies to talk about their graduate school experiences and ways to persist at the graduate level.

Program topics may include the following and more:

  • Time management

  • Tips on talking to your adviser

  • Living in Morgantown

  • Finding faculty who have similar research interests

  • Tips for succeeding and persisting in graduate school

  • Campus resources and connections

  • Perspectives on academic progress and expectations in graduate school including comprehensive exams, doctoral program candidacy, dissertation/thesis writing research and academic integrity

Peer mentoring is important for the following reasons:

  • It promotes academic success and helps graduate students persist in graduate school.

  • It provides an opportunity for mentees to build their mentoring and leadership skills to use in their future careers.

  • It expands professional networks for mentors and mentees.

  • It adds an important layer of support for graduate students.

Registration is due by Aug. 30.

Students can learn more about the program by attending an information session.
