Per the BOG policy regarding the use of University facilities, an external user must provide proof of adequate insurance in order to use a WVU-owned indoor or outdoor space for a proposed event.
Events may range from classroom seminars, receptions and weddings to high-risk events such as festivals and fairs, sporting events or concerts.
An external user is anyone who is not a University employee working within the course or scope of his or her employment, including groups, vendors, performers and exhibitors.
External users who do not carry their own liability insurance can purchase an event-specific liability policy through the Tenant and User Liability Insurance Program at a low cost. This policy is intended to protect both the user and WVU against claims by third parties who may be injured or experience damage to property as a result of participating in an event.
The Tenant and User Liability Insurance Program has exclusions for certain high-risk activities, and as a result, facility users may need to obtain coverage from another insurer if their event does not qualify.
Entities granted use of WVU facilities must provide a certificate of liability insurance to document they carry at least $1 million combined single limits of bodily injury and property damage liability coverage. WVU must be named “Additional Insured” on the certificate.
External users may obtain a quote from the TULIP website.
