Community invited to fashion show, high school student event

 Fashion Show Flyer

The WVU Fashion, Dress and Merchandising program invites the community to explore the future of fashion at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (May 3) at the Erickson Alumni Center.

The event is a unique opportunity for Morgantown and surrounding communities, offering a fashion show close to home while giving students vital real-world experience.

Anyone curious about fashion or wanting to support up-and-coming designers is encouraged to attend.

“It is a professional show with professional models,” said Colleen Moretz, associate professor of fashion, dress and merchandising. “The audience will experience the creativity of the students who have dedicated all year to their designs and the diversity of their aesthetics.”

Students focused on sustainability and how the fashion industry can take responsibility for its environmental impact by using new technologies and handcrafted techniques to create unique pieces with minimal ecological impact. Along with technology and sustainability, students were challenged to focus on creating seasonless and gender-neutral clothing.

Prior to the show, “Behind the Scenes” will provide hands-on activities related to the fashion industry for high school students interested in fashion, textiles or merchandising beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the South Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 141G.

The cost of this additional event is $10 and registration is requested.
