WVU medical students to learn residency placements during Match Day

School of Medicine

More than 100 School of Medicine graduating medical students across three campuses will learn where they will be training as resident physicians today (March 15).

Final-year medical students complete numerous applications and interviews at specialty residency programs of their choice, ranking the places where they would like to continue their medical training. The residency programs, in turn, rank the applicants. The information is then entered into the National Resident Matching Program which uses an algorithm to produce a list of “matches.”

Envelopes will be unveiled at noon and drawn randomly, giving each student an opportunity to step to the podium, open their envelope and share the news with family members and fellow students in real time.

Ticketed events are planned on the Morgantown Campus and at locations for the Charleston Division and Eastern Division.
