PRT card readers updated, certain ID cards must be replaced to ride

PRT Station

In an effort to update PRT equipment, card swipe machines at all WVU PRT stations have been replaced with newer devices that only require an ID card tap for access.

Rather than swiping ID cards, passengers can now simply tap their cards before selecting their destination and entering through the turnstiles.

With this change, any employees or students who are still using an ID card issued before June 19, 2017, must obtain a new ID card to use the PRT. Cards issued before this date do not have the technology required to function with these new card readers. There will be no cost to the student or employee to replace these cards or ones with damaged chips.

The PRT will not require ID card access to ride until Jan. 16. Those with ID cards issued before June 19, 2017, should plan to have their new ID card by Jan. 16.

To obtain a new ID card, visit idphoto.wvu.edu to submit a photo that meets WVU requirements. Once you have submitted your preferred photo(s), you must also upload a copy of a legal photo ID (i.e., driver’s license, passport) to confirm your identity. Your submission will be reviewed by ITS Service Center staff and you will receive a response via email within three business days. If your photo is rejected, you must submit a new one that meets the guidelines.

ID cards can be printed and picked up at any of the ITS Service Centers, which are at the following locations:

·      Mountainlair, next to the Post Office

·      Bennett Tower, G-118

·      Health Sciences Center, G-101 North

All three locations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except when the University is closed. These ITS Service Center locations can also take new ID card photographs and print cards during those hours.
