Registration opens next week for WVU Community Music Program

Community Music Program

Embrace the spirit of the new year and try something new and different.

In 2024, step out of your comfort zone and come make music with the University’s Community Music Program. Channel your inspiration and creativity from the holidays into learning how to play an instrument and mastering this craft through music lessons, group classes, and ensembles.

The Community Music Program is open to everyone — including beginners, amateurs, and performers of all ages and levels — who wishes to enhance their daily lives with arts, explore new creative territories or perform with others who share the same passion.

For the program’s 13-week term, members can register for private instruction on a variety of instruments, sign up for new and returning group classes, or perform with the Children’s Choir, Brass Band, Woodwind Chamber Music and the Morgantown Community Orchestra.

All classes are taught by School of Music and Community Music Program faculty members, including the program’s newest offerings — the Suzuki Cello Program taught by Prof. Erin Ellis and Composing with Technology with Profs. Jake Sandridge and Alan Hankers.

Early registration opens Monday (Jan. 8) and will remain open until Feb. 11. Classes begin Jan. 22 and late registration will close March 10 during which time a late fee of $15 will be applied to all incoming registrations.

The program will continue to provide the community with special offers, as well as discounts for senior citizens, multiple family members and those taking more than one class. Music students from neighboring colleges will receive a 10% discount to participate in our large ensembles, including the Morgantown Community Orchestra.
