WVU employees recognized with Boy Scouts of America national educator award

Jay Cole National Educator Award

The Mountaineer Area Council Boy Scouts of America recognized distinguished citizens whose leadership and philanthropy have made a positive difference in local communities and represent the values instilled by the Scouts during the 10th annual Distinguished Citizen Dinner on Thursday (Nov. 2) at the Erickson Alumni Center.

Jay Cole and Michelle Richards-Babb were recognized as the 2023 recipients of the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award, presented to teachers, educational support staff and school administrators who instill Scouting values in their students.

The award recognizes a person’s work for students in his or her professional role, not for what the person does directly for Scouting.

Former WVU quarterback Jeff Hostetler was honored with the Distinguished Citizen Award.

Several outstanding Scouts had an opportunity to share their personal achievements and the positive impact that Scouting has made on their lives during the Council’s premiere fundraising event.
