Applications rolling in for First Ascent

First Ascent

WVU and Marshall University have combined their resources and expertise to offer this two-year program designed to help graduates launch their professional careers through the power of remote and hybrid work, all while maximizing work-life balance, enjoying outdoor recreation, building community and driving purpose-centered collaborations.

The program also creates opportunities to network with seasoned professionals, explore how to best integrate work and personal endeavors via outdoor recreation, and provides the building blocks for emerging community leaders through service and connection.

The program launch was announced last month.

Access to free co-working space, professional mentorships, a remote worker certification, outdoor recreation and community engagement only scratch the surface of how First Ascent prepares graduates for success in an increasingly digital world.

Six vibrant communities will be home to First Ascent members: Morgantown Area, Huntington Area, Eastern Panhandle, New River Gorge, Greater Elkins and Greenbrier Valley. With abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, these communities of emphasis are primed to optimize work-life priorities and develop tight-knit communities, making them ideal places for young professionals to thrive.

All current WVU and MU students enrolled in the last year of their degree program, and those who have graduated within the past twelve months, are encouraged to apply for the program through November
