Update to macOS Ventura appears today, installation can only be deferred until noon Sept. 17

An important security update to computers running macOS Ventura will be available on all WVU-owned or -managed machines starting at noon today (Sept. 11) and installation can only be deferred until noon Sunday (Sept. 17). After that time, you will be forced to install the update.

To avoid disruption to your workday, Information Technology Services recommends you install the update as soon as it is convenient. It should take about 15 minutes to complete the installation and required restart.

Going forward, ITS will release routine macOS updates as soon as Apple makes them available. This occurs several times a year. Mac users should see a notification that an update needs to be installed and will only be able to defer that installation for five days. After that, you will be forced to install the update. ITS will continue to test major OS upgrades for compatibility before releasing those.

If you encounter a problem, call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 or contact your college or department IT team.
