Office of Accessibility Services stresses the importance of accommodating students with disabilities

Students renew their authorized accommodations with the Office of Accessibility Services each semester, triggering the release of official accommodation authorization emails to faculty.

Once letters are sent, students are responsible for meeting with faculty during office hours to discuss how accommodations will be implemented in each class. Faculty should make themselves available for these conversations in a reasonable time frame and in a private setting.

After meeting with students, faculty should log in and digitally sign the OAS accommodation authorization in SAMM, confirming that a conversation has taken place. When signing the letter, it is important to enter notes regarding the discussion with the student.

Within one week of meeting with a student, faculty are responsible for implementing accommodations in the agreed upon fashion to ensure prompt access to course instruction.

Faculty can also review accommodation authorizations for all students in their assigned classes at any time by following these steps:

1. Go to accessibilityservices.wvu.edu.

2. Click on “SAMM” in the upper right corner.

3. Log in under “Faculty” with your WVU ID.

4. Click on “Accommodation Letters” in the sidebar.

For questions about the implementation of accommodations, faculty should contact the accessibility specialist included in the notification of authorized accommodations email.
