English Language Learning Institute to host Fulbright Pre-Academic Program

Fulbright Grant

The English Language Learning Institute in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics has been awarded a Fulbright Pre-Academic Program Grant from the U.S. Department of State in partnership with the Institute of International Education.

The grant will help host approximately 40 Fulbright grantees for six weeks at WVU during the summer, with a yearly project budget of approximately $400,000. The grantees will engage in a series of courses and workshops designed to prepare them for the linguistic and cultural realities of graduate study in the U.S. context.

The academic coursework, coupled with workshops, a mentoring program and co-curricular activities, will highlight West Virginia culture, history and nature, and will prepare these future graduate students to participate in programs across the U.S. starting in fall 2023.

Amy S. Thompson, primary investigator, and Kristen Williams, co-investigator, led the proposal team that included Susan Braidi, Livia Cascao, Tracy Dingess, Lindsei Pereira and Jennifer Simpson Ross.
