Hybrid benefit auction to support law students planned

The Public Interest Advocates and the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest will host their annual benefit auction in a hybrid format March 19-23.

Auction proceeds will help fund fellowships for College of Law students working to assist low-income and at-risk West Virginians throughout the state.

The community is invited to bid online beginning March 19. 

The week-long auction will conclude with a reception at 7 p.m. on March 23 at the College of Law. The event is free and open to the public and hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be provided. 

The reception will feature a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and assorted door prizes.

Auction items include:

  •  Overnight stays at the Billy Motel, Stonewall Resort and Canaan Valley

  •  Dinner with President Gee and/or WVU Law professors

  •  WVU and Marshall signed sports memorabilia

  •  Handmade black walnut charcuterie, chip and dip and beer flight boards

  • One-year membership with the Monongalia County Bar Association and a CLE package

  • A Tanner’s Alley leather briefcase

  • Coffee mugs, homemade quilts, signed books and much more

More than 400 students have served as PIA fellows in public interest organizations, including Legal Aid of West Virginia, Senior Legal Aid of West Virginia, Mountain State Justice, ChildLaw Services, Disability Rights of West Virginia and West Virginia Public Defender Services. 

WVFLIPI is a nonprofit organization that funds students at public interest entities throughout West Virginia. Since its inception in 1987, WVFLIPI has sponsored hundreds of fellows who work to enhance the quality of legal services afforded to low-income West Virginians, including children, the elderly and victims of domestic violence.
