The School of Music will announce the release date for its Country Roads compilation album during a concert at the Clay Center in Charleston on Sunday (Feb. 26).
The University’s Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra will perform their respective takes on the John Denver classic beginning at 2 p.m. The Symphony Orchestra’s performance was arranged by Matt Jackfert, WVU alumnus and West Virginia Public Radio host.
The School of Music’s upcoming album, “A Celebration of Country Roads,” is a 16-track compilation album with distinctive renditions of the tune by both University faculty and students.
“The song ‘Country Roads’ is an important part of who we are as citizens of West Virginia,” said Joshua Swiger, WVU music industry professor and executive producer of the project. “Having the major university in the state create a project that showcases its musical abilities and artistic endeavors in such a unique way is inspiring to all.”
Students and faculty have spent the last 18 months recording and producing the album from Mon Hills Music Group.
Teaser CDs will be available at the event, as well as pre-order sign-ups for vinyl and CDs.
The concert is free to the public.
