Libraries preparing for Love Data Week

Flowers, cards and candy are all optional for Love Data Week, an international celebration of data designed to raise awareness and build a community to engage on topics related to research data management, sharing, preservation, reuse and research data services. 

WVU Libraries has created a slate of workshops that address these topics.

The 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy
Find out how the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy will affect applying for and complying with NIH grants and learn about important considerations when creating a Data Management and Sharing Plan for your grant application.

Licensing your Data for Open Science
If I deposit data from my own experiment, can I control how other people use it? Can data be copyrighted? Why should I openly license my data? In this workshop, we will explore questions such as these, and give suggestions on data sharing and reuse, as well as why openly licensing your data can avoid copyright issues for international collaboration.

Introduction to Writing a Data Management Plan with DMPTool
This workshop will go over the basics of a Data Management and Sharing Plan and introduce participants to DMPTool, an open-source, online application that helps researchers create DMPs that comply with funder requirements, such as the NIH and NSF.

Writing About Data: A Scientific Writing Workshop
This workshop will explain the conventions of writing about data, including integrating tables and graphs and writing successful summaries.

First Steps with R and RStudio
This workshop will introduce participants to using R and RStudio. No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders.

Special Topics in R and RStudio: RMarkdown for Publication
R Markdown makes it possible to work on a whole research project from within R Studio in an easily reproducible manner: from data upload, cleaning, and analysis, to writing your paper, adding figures, citations, and bibliography with proper formatting. No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders.

Special Topics in R and RStudio: Exploratory Data Analysis with Tidyverse
This workshop will introduce participants to using the Tidyvese package in R to perform tasks such as reading data, analyzing data, and plotting data.

Special Topics in R and RStudio: Quarto for Authorship and Publication
Quarto is a scientific and technical publishing system that makes it possible to work on a whole research project from within R Studio in an easily reproducible manner: from data upload, cleaning and analysis, to writing your paper, adding figures, citations and bibliography with proper formatting. No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders.
