Enhance your teaching skills while earning credentials

An instructor stands at the front of a large classroom and leans on a long beige table. A dozen students sit in gray chairs around the long table and at separate blue couches near the front of the room.

In partnership with the Association of College and University Educators, WVU is offering all instructors, including adjuncts and GTAs, the opportunity to pursue a Certificate in Effective College Instruction at no cost.

This is the only college teaching credential endorsed by the American Council on Education.

Four courses that are focused on learning and implementing evidence-based teaching practices are offered during the academic year. All courses are cohort-based and delivered online.

The following courses are being offered during the spring and summer 2023 semesters:

Spring 2023

• Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment, Jan. 23 - March 12, pending the acquisition of funding

• Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners in Your Online Course, Jan. 23 - March 5

• Promoting Active Learning Online, Jan. 23 - March 5

Summer 2023

• Designing Learner-Centered and Equitable Courses, modality independent

You have the option of completing as many or as few of these courses as you would like, only one per semester, and receiving a micro-credential at the end of each. If you choose to complete a total of four courses, you will receive a teaching certificate at the end that is endorsed by the American Council on Education. If you have already earned the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices certificate, you can complete three courses to earn an Advanced Certificate in Effective College Instruction.

The deadline to register for the spring 2023 courses is 5 p.m. on Jan. 5. Space is limited.
