Wenjuan Gu, Owen Glazier, Pat Palcic, Shelby Floyd and Ashton Crawford, Milan Puskar Leadership Scholars from the leadership studies minor, won the 2022 International Leadership Association Student Case Study Competition.
During the competition, students showcased their knowledge about leadership through the analysis of a contemporary socio-political, economic problem on the global or national level choosing from six different United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The WVU team selected the “Good Health and Well-Being goal” examining the ongoing Red Hill Well water contamination crisis in Oahu, Hawaii. The students crafted an executive summary and recorded a virtual poster presentation to advance to the final round with teams from Washburn University and Christopher Newport University.
The final round required a formal virtual presentation integrating concepts from the 2022 ILA conference in Washington, D.C., theme "Wisdom in Times of Crisis," judged by three international judges.
On Oct. 21, the WVU undergraduate team was announced as the winners of the case study competition. The team shares a cash prize of $1,000 and will present at the ILA town hall meeting slated for Nov. 30.
The Milan Puskar Leadership Scholars are advised by Cheyenne Luzynski, leadership studies teaching associate professor.
