Creating something that is easy to remember but hard to guess is key to a strong password.
During National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Information Technology Services recommends keeping these three words in mind when creating a password or passphrase: Long, Unique, Complex.
The longer the password, the harder it is to guess. WVU Login passwords are now required to be at least 12 characters under the Password Standard.
Each account needs its own unique password. Incorporate a favorite quote, a song title or your favorite athlete’s name and it becomes more difficult to guess.
Passwords that use numbers, capital letters and symbols are the hardest to crack. Use a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters.
A password manager can help you remember and keep passwords safe in one convenient location. Some popular password managers include LastPass, Keeper, Dashlane, and 1Password.
Remember: Never reuse your WVU Login password for personal, non-University accounts and never share it with anyone or write it down for someone to find.
