Eberly’s annual Holt Lecture to focus on jobs in Rust Belt America

Gabriel Winant

The Department of History at Eberly College of Arts and Sciences will host its 11th annual Senator Rush D. Holt Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 22) in White Hall, G09.

All across the Rust Belt, health care has become the largest category of employment, sometimes bigger than coal or steel ever was. But the jobs are much worse. How did this come to be?

Dr. Gabriel Winant, a professor of American history at University of Chicago, will answer this question during his talk, titled “The Next Shift: The Fall of Industry and the Rise of Health Care in Rust Belt America.”

The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
