We are thrilled to share that the Morgantown Community Orchestra is returning for a summer concert, the first time since 2018, to take you on a trip “Around the World” Sunday (June 12) at 4:30 p.m. in the great hall of the CMA Church of Morgantown. The concert is free and open to the public.
Inspired by members of the ensemble expressing that they “feel the musicians respect each other,” “it’s like a family” and “everyone is here for the fun of making music,” the WVU Community Music Program pioneered a summer orchestra program to provide the Morgantown community with a platform to make music through collaboration all year long.
Under the baton of Music Director Alyssa Schwartz, the MCO is mastering repertoire of many different musical backgrounds and corners of the world, stretching all the way from the quick tempo and exciting dance rhythms of the tarantella to the dramatic mood contrasts of Brahms’ "Hungarian Dance No. 5” to the beautiful lyricism of South Korean Yiruma’s famous composition, “River Flows in You,” to then sail through the seas as pirates with a medley of themes from Hans Zimmer’s famous “Pirates of the Caribbean” soundtrack.
The CMA Church of Morgantown is located across from the Canady Creative Arts Center at 308 Elmhurst Street.
If our mission aligns with yours, consider making a gift to the largest ensemble of the program and one of our communities finest musical jewels.
Designed for intermediate and advanced players in the community and greater region who wish to share and develop their artistic talents, the MCO is one of the largest musical ensembles of WVU’s Community Music Program. The orchestra welcomes instrumentalists of a wide range of musical experience and provides a meaningful opportunity for artistic growth, community engagement and high-quality performance opportunities. Fall 2022 registration begins Aug. 15.
