Student Rec Center closed until further notice

A building with a glass front is seen through the leaves of trees

The Student Recreation Center closed today (May 31) at 4 p.m. and will remain closed until further notice due to ongoing repair work on the system which cools the building.

At times on Tuesday, temperatures inside the building were near or above 90 degrees which is the upper limit for safe activity and the short-term weather forecast indicated high temperatures would be continuing.

Other on-campus and off-campus exercise options are available as alternatives.

On campus: The new fitness court, basketball courts and sand volleyball courts are open and available near the Evansdale Residential Complex (Towers Residence Halls).

At Mylan Park: The Mylan Park Aquatic & Track Complex are available to current WVU Campus Recreation members (reminder: WVU Students have access at all times while registered for classes). To access Mylan Park, please bring your ID card (if you use the virtual WVUGO app, please bring a license or other form of ID).

We will closely monitor the forecast and will reopen the Rec when it’s possible to do so or when repairs to the chiller system have been completed.
