Justis Zigubu, a second-year public administration graduate student, and his team earned first place and a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with policymakers for the cartoon they created to highlight innovative forms of taxation as a way to fix Social Security.
“As it has been said before, members of the Bipartisan Policy Center work very closely with the people on Capitol Hill so these students actually have the chance to influence change in society,” said Karen Kunz, associate professor of public administration. “Their video not only created an impact on the Bipartisan Policy Center judges but it also struck a chord with West Virginia leadership."
"They were so impressed by the ideas of the content, that Senator Manchin and Congressman McKinley wanted to see the videos themselves.”
Six teams from West Virginia University won a total of $11,500 in cash prizes at the video competition.
