Women in Natural Resources presents third annual Symposium

Women in Natural Resources will host its third annual symposium Thursday (April 14) with poster displays, vendor displays, presentations, discussions and refreshments. The symposium will take place at the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design's Percival Hall on the Evansdale Campus.

Research poster displays will be from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the main lobby. Poster talks will be from noon-1 p.m. in room 314. Vendor, organization and club displays will take place from 3-5 p.m. in the main lobby. A panel discussion and question and answer forum will be at 5 p.m. in room 324 in with a cookie reception to follow.

Panelists include Carol Phillips, executive director of West Virginia Women Work; Melissa Thomas-Van Gundy, acting project leader/research forester for the US Forest Service; Michaela Collins, of AmeriCorps VISTA and Friends of Decker's Creek; and Kristen Wickert, recent Davis College graduate and forest entomologist specialist.

The symposium highlights the unique contributions of women undergraduate and graduate students to the field of natural resources. Topics to be presented will include applications in mineland reclamation, fisheries and wildlife management, forest regeneration, water quality and access and more.
