Davis College opens storefront for student entrepreneurs, hosts grand opening

Greenhouse

Today and tomorrow (April 8-9), the WVU community is invited to attend the grand opening event for the Davis College Store. The store, located in the Evansdale Greenhouse, will be open until 4 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

During the grand opening, the store will have products for sale made by students through classes, clubs and organizations. A large variety of plant material will be available including annuals, hanging baskets, vegetable starts, herbs and tropical foliage house plants. Seeds from two West Virginia based seed companies, Two Seeds in the Pod and Sylvan Roots, will also be available.

Part of the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, the store proposes to drive rural business creation in West Virginia, starting with a network of student, staff and faculty entrepreneurs. The non-profit store will promote, incubate and support small and rural businesses based on the teaching, research and outreach missions of West Virginia University and the Davis College. It will serve as an avenue for students to sell their products made in the classroom and research settings, as well as through student clubs and organizations. Davis College store manager Kelly Irvine said the venture will benefit students by “allowing them to put their entrepreneurial skills into action, as well as make connections with others in the community.”
