Huguenin named director of Ascend WV

Emily Huguenin

West Virginia University’s Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative has appointed Emily Huguenin as the director of Ascend WV.

With a wealth of experience in team leadership and program development, Huguenin’s experience is an asset to Ascend WV as the program expands into new locations and additional initiatives take West Virginia’s talent attraction and retention programming to new heights.

“We could not be more excited to welcome Emily to the WVU family and the Smith OEDC,”  said Danny Twilley, AVP for Economic, Community and Asset Development. “She brings a wealth of experience and a passion for WV to her role that will be critical as the program grows.”

Huguenin has recreated in the Mountain State for most of her life and has pursued outdoor education as a career in 2006 while guiding adventure trips in the New River Gorge. Since then, she has been involved in environmental education and summer camp leadership. Huguenin is passionate about helping others enrich their lives through outdoor recreation while building up communities throughout the state.

"I first moved here in 2003 and fell in love with the rivers, rocks, forests, caves and especially the people,” Huguenin said. “My background in outdoor education has taught me that wonder, joy, adventure and growth can be found everywhere when intentionally sought. Members of the Ascend WV program have intentionally sought out this enriched lifestyle, and I know that they are already on their path to discovering all there is to enjoy about being a West Virginian.”
