WVU Youth Programs – Children on Campus is hosting the workshop “A SAFeR Approach for West Virginia Children” April 6 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The workshop will be on Zoom and is free and open to the public.

Domestic Violence is often a silent pandemic lurking around families from generation to generation. Those most vulnerable may be the children who are affected in ways that can often go unnoticed. This workshop will help participants gain an understanding of the impact of domestic violence on families including children and inform participants of the WV SAFeR approach. This model is a national, evidence-driven assessment tool used to inform decision making for those involved in the child welfare setting as well as the family court setting.

The presenter for this workshop is Cydney Fields, MSW, LGSW. She is the Protective Services Coordinator with the WV Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Cydney has 12 years of experience working with children as a former Child Protective Service Worker and a Domestic Violence Advocate. In 2017 Cydney joined the WVCADV where she has been involved in several statewide initiatives including the creation and implementation of the DV Specialist Program across the state through a partnership with the Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau of Social Services. Cydney coordinates, facilitates, and participants on several multidisciplinary teams statewide focused on the health and welfare of victims and children. Cydney regularly provides training to child/adult welfare workers in WV as well as other disciplines working to end violence. Cydney is the 2021 Mrs. West Virginia and placed in the Top 6 at Mrs. America.
