You don't have to be an expert in mental health to notice when someone is struggling with stress, sadness or anxiety. Yet, you may not know the best way to start a conversation with them.

WVU students, faculty and staff now have free access to Kognito, an online training program that teaches skills for communicating with others about mental health concerns and motivating them to seek help when needed.

Kognito's online, interactive training is evidence-based and will build awareness, knowledge, skills and confidence when talking about mental health issues, preparing students and employees to be a resource when someone is in need.

Learn more about the program and get started.

Step-by-step instructions are available at the Carruth Center website

Funding for Kognito comes through a collaboration with Prevent Suicide WV to enhance mental health promotion and suicide prevention providing access for all WVU students, faculty and staff for the next year.

This is the latest in a variety of services and resources available for faculty and staff.

For example, employees can find in-depth information on the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program and all that the program entails at mentalhealth.wvu.edu. If you're facing any struggles and would like to consider talking to someone about them, we strongly encourage you to reach out to FSAP. Remember, it's a completely free, confidential and HIPAA-compliant safe space for employees and their dependents.
