An information technology expert with years of experience in auditing, security and risk assessment has been named director of research systems and operational data service at the WVU Research Office.
Rosemary Casteel will provide oversight and work with researchers and other stakeholders seeking access to research systems, data and technology.
“We are fortunate to have Rosemary as part of the WVU Research Office team at a time when we are examining our research IT processes and systems to ensure we are providing R1 level service to the research community,” said Vice President for Research Fred King.
Prior to returning to Morgantown in 2019, Casteel worked at the University of Nevada and University of Arizona in IT auditing roles. She had also served as associate vice president of information technology services at NASDAQ for two years.
In her new role, Casteel will aim to establish a research IT infrastructure that provides the WVU community with the necessary tools to conduct their research.
“I have two main goals,” Casteel said. “One is to provide oversight of IT resources to ensure the successful delivery of automated systems that support compliant and timely review/approval of research activities. The second is to provide technology and data services to assist the research community in the conduct of research.
“WVU is an R1 research institution. Research volume and the complexity of research has increased significantly over the past 10 years at WVU. With that, regulatory compliance is ever increasing, as are institutional policies governing research. The growth requires effective systems to facilitate administration and compliance for the research community.
“It is rewarding to be able to assist researchers in providing systems and services that enable them to focus on research and outcomes to improve lives and our communities.”
