15-minute screen lock on University-owned or -managed computers will be enforced starting Monday

Two new non-disruptive security settings will be applied to all University-owned and -managed computers and tablets Monday, Feb. 14. These changes will better protect institutional data and meet various compliance requirements.

Information Technology Services will begin enforcing the longstanding University-Owned Devices Standard, which requires all WVU-owned and -managed computers to be secured when not in use. Screens will automatically lock and require a password after 15 minutes of inactivity. If you are interacting with the device in some fashion, it won’t lock.

All University-owned devices also will begin to display a one-paragraph security statement to remind users of the Acceptable Use Policy and advise that any illegal, improper or unauthorized activity may result in disciplinary action. This will appear each time you log into a WVU-owned or -managed machine, after each reboot and when you use Remote Desktop Access. It will not display when the screen locks after 15 minutes of inactivity.
