Leland Byrd, who rose to national acclaim as the Athletic Director at WVU during his seven-year tenure, died Jan. 19, 2022, surrounded by members of his family.
His career as a WVU basketball player preceded a successful coaching career and ultimately, the Athletic Director position at his alma mater.
Byrd was fondly remembered by President Gee, Gale Catlett and Shane Lyons, WVU’s current Athletic Director.
