WVU Community Music Program celebrates 60th anniversary

Community Music Program

After two years of online education and virtual recitals, the WVU Community Music Program is beyond grateful to have been able to resume in-person activities and use the power of music to bring the members of our community together again.

As music is undoubtedly one the greatest ways to connect and strengthen social bonds, we invite you to welcome the new year by taking part in our reunion and celebrate with us the program’s 60th anniversary.

Registration begins today (Jan. 10) for private instruction (in-person or virtual) on a variety of instruments, such as piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, harp, percussion, bluegrass fiddle, mandolin, banjo, hammered dulcimer, voice, songwriting and improvisation.

The program is open to everyone, including beginners, amateurs and performers of all ages and levels who wish to enhance their daily lives with arts, learn how to play an instrument, further hone their skills, explore new creative territories or perform with others who share the same passion.

For those seeking to learn through collaboration, the program welcomes instrumentalists of a wide range of musical experience to perform with the Morgantown Community Orchestra and the Jazz Combos, both of which provide a meaningful opportunity for artistic growth and community engagement.

Along with special offers and other available discounts, the program is bringing back high-in demand group classes, such as digital photography, harp classes and piano classes for adults, and adding new classes, including traditional Appalachian guitar lessons for beginners and wellness workshops for musicians.

“Anyone can take music lessons and acquire its benefits on both the mind and soul, and with music, it is never too late to start! The Community Music Program promises to nurture your inner artist while delivering high-quality instruction by professionals dedicated to their craft,” said Eftihia Arkoudis, WVU Community Music program director.
