macOS Monterey update appears today, installation can only be deferred five times

The new macOS Monterey is being pushed to all WVU-owned or -managed computers today (Jan. 3). Employees will see a prompt to allow the update but can defer the installation for as many as five times or schedule the installation for a later time, leaving the computer powered on. After five deferrals, the update must be installed.

This OS update can take up to two hours to complete and will require a restart of the computer, so Information Technology Services strongly recommends scheduling a time outside your normal work hours.

ITS has tested Monterey against applications such as eCampus and Banner/STAR, and found no compatibility issues. If you encounter a problem, call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 or contact your college or department IT team.

If you work at the Health Sciences Center and have problems, contact the HSC ITS Help Desk at 304-293-3631, option 1.
