The influx of students to residence halls in August brings a buzz to WVU’s campus, but it also inevitably brings an influx of waste from students setting up their temporary homes in residence halls. This year, WVU recycled almost 28,000 pounds of cardboard over the three-day move-in period—enough to fill eight PRT cars.
WVU Sustainability staff and student volunteers partner each year to make sure plastic packaging and Styrofoam are disposed of correctly in landfill-bound containers and that cardboard is broken down to save space in temporary containers and make its way to the recycling facility.
