The WVU Libraries’ Data Services workshops are designed to provide faculty and students training in data management, software platforms for data visualization and analysis, and finding data resources. To register for these workshops, follow the links attached to each event.   

  • Backing-up, Storing, and Preserving Your Research Files
    During the life of a research project, you generate a lot of files, but how much thought do you give to their storage and preservation? How often should you backup your materials what steps do you need to take to preserve your data so that it remains accessible in the long-term? In this online workshop you will learn how to create a systematic storage process to secure your data against a wide range of loss scenarios.

  • Introduction to Election Data Resources
    In this workshop participants will learn how to access and use popular resources for data on current and historical electoral returns, voter turnout, and administration of elections. This workshop will be held at the Downtown Campus Library, Room 136.

  • A Primer in Data Visualization with Tableau
    This workshop is designed to teach users new to Tableau how to prepare their data, navigate the Tableau Desktop interface, create basic visualization (i.e. bar chart, heat map, etc.), and combine visualizations into a dashboard. Recommended for faculty, graduate and upper-level undergraduate students interested in data visualization and storytelling. No prior Tableau experience needed. Participants are strongly encouraged to download Tableau Desktop prior to the session. A free 14-day trial is available.

  • First Steps with Python for Data Analysis
    This workshop will introduce participants to using Python for data analysis. No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders. Participants will need to bring their own laptop with Python downloaded and installed. This workshop will be held at the Downtown Campus, Room 104.
    Register for this Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 3:30-5 p.m. workshop.

  • Data Analysis and Visualization using Python
    This workshop will introduce participants to Python tasks such as reading data, analyzing data, and plotting data. Participants are expected to have attended the First Steps with Python workshop or to have some basic knowledge of using Python. Participants will need to bring their own laptop with Python downloaded and installed. This workshop will be held at the Downtown Campus, Room 104.
