This research study offers a telehealth program that teaches positive parenting skills to caregivers of children with a history of neonatal abstinence syndrome. The program is part of a research study to determine if telehealth can be used to improve children’s behavior.
The study consists of 15 one-hour long appointments, including an initial getting-to-know-you meeting, 12 coaching sessions, a wrap-up meeting and a four-week follow-up. Each confidential session is individualized to the family’s needs to maximize the child’s success.
To be eligible, the child must be between the ages of 2-4, have had a diagnosis of neonatal abstinence syndrome as an infant and sometimes act out (like not complying with caregiver requests). Caregivers must have access to internet that supports video streaming and be willing to attend 15 appointments.
Caregivers do not need to be biological parents. Grandparents, kin care, foster parents, and adoptive parents are also eligible. No travel is required. Caregivers can participate from any location where they are comfortable and have a sufficient internet connection.
Caregivers will receive $20 for each session that they attend, for a total of $300, if they complete the program.
