Upcoming planned steam outage for the Downtown campus

West Virginia University downtown campus, red brick buildings

The Facilities Management team is working with WVU’s steam provider on a planned steam outage for the Downtown campus, which will occur Sunday, May 16, through Saturday, May 22. The outage will begin at 6 a.m.

All steam across the Downtown campus will be shut down during the outage. Heating, domestic hot water and lab steam will be affected at the following campus buildings:

  • Armstrong Hall

  • Brooks Hall

  • Chemistry Research Laboratory

  • Chitwood Hall

  • Clark Hall

  • Colson Hall

  • Downtown Campus Library

  • Eiesland Hall

  • Elizabeth Moore Hall

  • John Chambers College of Business and Economics

  • Life Sciences Building

  • Martin Hall

  • Mountainlair

  • Oglebay Hall

  • Purinton House

  • Stewart Hall

  • White Hall

  • Woodburn Hall

Heating and domestic hot water also will be affected in the following residence halls:

  • Boreman Hall (North and South)

  • Dadisman Hall

  • Stalnaker Hall

Air conditioning is not expected to be impacted during the outage. However, the Facilities team will continually monitor temperatures in campus buildings and residence halls and make any necessary adjustments.

Researchers should consider delaying any new research projects that could be impacted by this outage if at all possible.

A similar steam outage for the Evansdale campus will take place Sunday, June 6, through Saturday, June 12. These outages are designed to accommodate enhancements, repairs and testing to the University’s steam infrastructure.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this critical work at a time that will have the least impact to our students, faculty and staff.

If you have questions or concerns about the outage, contact your building supervisor to discuss your specific needs. You also may contact Facilities and Services at FacilitiesandServices@mail.wvu.edu with any general questions.
