The Mountaineer Volunteer Program engages students through volunteer training

Mountaineer Volunteer Program

The Mountaineer Volunteer Program, sponsored by the WVU Center for Services and Learning, engages WVU students through volunteer training, reflection and community awareness. This program helps identify personal strengths and areas of needed development and address obstacles that can impede the volunteer experience, enhancing their value as committed volunteers.

This year, 49 students participated in the MVP program and 40 completed the series of trainings. Participants engaged in meaningful discussion and reflection on the topic of community service and the role in serving the community with quality. This idea struck students as a unique means of decreasing the effects of social isolation while exploring how they can support others.

“Interacting and volunteering with the community is a very important experience that would enhance anyone’s view of the world. The Mountaineer Volunteer Program provides a window into what makes volunteering worthwhile and effective. From something as simple as communicating to understanding your own personality, the trainings are important to exercise the mind and delve deeper into what service with the community actually means,” said Logan Riffey, MVP participant.
