Dawson stepping away from CIO role, Knotts to lead ITS organization on interim basis

Barbra Dawson

Barbara Dawson, associate vice president and chief information officer, will be leaving West Virginia University later this month to pursue outside opportunities in private industry.

Dawson joined WVU in 2017. Since that time, she has led many transformational initiatives within Information Technology Services focused on creating a modern IT organization to support the needs of the University and strengthening information security and data protection across the WVU System.

Rob Alsop, vice president for Strategic Initiatives, said, “I want to thank Barb for the work she has done to advance information technology at WVU and deliver solutions that meet the needs of our students, faculty and staff. I also appreciate Barb’s efforts in building a strong foundation for the IT Modernization Planning project, which will ensure the University can face future challenges with modern technology and efficient, effective business processes that support a positive and engaging student experience.”

Alsop has named Brice Knotts, deputy CIO and executive director of Enterprise Applications, to serve as interim Associate Vice President and CIO, following Dawson’s departure.
