The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness is pleased to announce eight wellbeing projects were funded during the inaugural request for proposals process.
University-wide announcements were made throughout February and March soliciting project ideas aligned with the WVU Wellbeing Wheel, the framework that drives health and wellness initiatives at West Virginia University.
“Our reviewers were particularly interested in projects that were directly aligned with emotional wellbeing. Emotional wellbeing is stranded into each of our other wellbeing priorities, including physical, purpose, social, financial, and community,” said Tara Hulsey, vice president of health promotion and wellness
Review teams were composed of faculty, staff and student volunteers.
“It was an absolute pleasure working with our Priority Action Teams. They worked diligently to ensure that funded proposals are aligned with the strategic plans they helped us develop this academic year,” said Amy Sidwell, program director.
The Priority Action Teams’ recommendations were shared with the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness Planning Steering Committee. This Committee includes senior leadership at WVU.
Each of the funded projects met rigorous evaluation criteria. The applicants clearly described their projects, designed timelines for planning, implementation and evaluation, and developed reasonable budgets.
Funded projects include:
Food Justice in Appalachia: An exhibit by WVU Libraries in partnership with the WVU Food Justice Lab, the WVU Center for Resilient Communities and Turnrow Appalachian Farm Collective.
Passport to Holistic Wellness.
The Body Project.
Mountaineers on the Move: Promoting Wellness through Adapted Sports.
National College Health Assessment/National Faculty & Staff Health Assessment.
Mountaineers Move: 5% Healthier & Stay SANE!.
Leveraging Resilience and Self-Compassion of Nursing Faculty.
Mountaineers for Recovery Retreat.
These eight funded projects were awarded $91,000. The Office received 17 requests totaling $322,000.
“The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness commends all applicants for their submissions. We look forward to connecting applicants to additional resources and extending the network of wellness programming at West Virginia University,” Hulsey said.
