Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Meshea L. Poore continues her weekly series of short videos, exploring topics centered on helping members of the WVU community live, learn and work together with care and respect for each other.
This week’s video, released March 23, addresses land acknowledgement.
“It’s important that we recognize and acknowledge that the land on which our campuses sit – where we live, learn, and work – belonged first to Indigenous peoples,” Poore said. “Indigenous peoples are themselves, a beautiful, diverse community of cultures, languages, and traditions. I’m thankful to the Native American Studies program, under the leadership of Bonnie Brown, for their research and for sharing this information so we are all better informed.”
The Let’s Talk series, with a new video each Tuesday, will address a diversity of topics, including gender identity, cultural appropriation, and intersectionality.
