Huntington native works to create change with new song

Aristotle Jones

Appalachian Soul Man and Huntington native Aristotle Jones’ new song “The Talk” will be featured on Go 1st Records’ mixtape this spring, a student-run record label under the WVU School of Music’s Mon Hills Music Group. This song was written by Jones to start a dialogue around the experiences of Black people in Appalachia.

“The Talk” speaks on three generations of black men born in West Virginia with Appalachian roots stemming back to just after the Civil War. The song discusses how Jones, his father and grandfather explained to the next generations that their lives are worth more than their community perceived them to be.
