The WVU Libraries Data Services workshops are designed to provide faculty and students training in data management, software platforms for data visualization and analysis, and finding data resources. To register for these workshops, please follow the links attached to each event.  

A Primer in Data Visualization with Tableau: Part I
This workshop is designed to teach users new to Tableau how to prepare their data, navigate the Tableau Desktop interface, create basic visualizations (i.e. bar chart, heat map, etc.), and combine visualizations into a dashboard. 

Register for this Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 1:30-2:45 p.m. workshop.

Backing-Up, Storing and Preserving Your Research Files
In this workshop you will learn how to create a systematic storage process to secure your data against a wide range of loss scenarios.

Register for this Thursday, Feb. 25, from 2-3 p.m. workshop.

First Steps with R and RStudio
This workshop will introduce participants to using R and RStudio. No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders. 

Register for this Thursday, March 4, from 3:30-5 p.m. workshop.  

Data Analysis and Visualization Using R and Tidyverse
This workshop will introduce participants to R tasks such as reading data into R, analyzing data, and plotting data. Participants are expected to have attended the First Steps with R and RStudio workshop or to have some basic knowledge of using R. Register for this Thursday, March 11, from 3:30-5 p.m. workshop.

Working with Tableau: Part 2
This workshop is designed to teach users new to Tableau how to prepare their data, navigate the Tableau Desktop interface, create basic visualization (i.e. bar chart, heat map, etc.), and combine visualizations into a dashboard. Recommended for faculty, graduate and upper-level undergraduate students interested in data visualization and storytelling. No prior Tableau experience needed.

Introduction to U.S. Census Data
This workshop will give participants a general understanding on how to use census data sources and will be introduced to the available Census surveys, and their strengths and weaknesses, as well as how to how to access the available data.
