WVU Wellbeing Survey results and future directions

To help identify how WVU is meeting wellbeing needs, faculty and staff on each campus were asked to participate in a survey aligned with the WVU Wellbeing Wheel, the framework that drives wellness initiatives at the University.

More than 951 employees responded to the survey. Highlights from the survey include:

  • A 68% positive response on all wellbeing indicators.

  • An 82% positive response on finding work meaningful and purposeful.

  • A 77% positive response on making meaningful connections within the University system.

The findings indicate room for improvement on emotional wellbeing. When employees were asked, “As we build wellbeing programs at WVU, what do you perceive to be the most important area for us to focus on first?” The most common themes included mental health and work life balance.

At the conclusion of the survey, the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness reviewed data with Priority Action Teams. These five teams are comprised of faculty, staff and students who have been engaged in strategic planning. The teams created a Request for Proposals (RFP) process to address the most pressing wellbeing needs.

“We are grateful for the input of the Priority Action Teams,” said Tara Hulsey, vice president of health promotion and wellness and dean of the School of Nursing. “The teams have worked diligently to create a process where we can evaluate and fund proposals that are aligned with the University’s wellbeing priorities.”

The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness will accept Requests for Proposals now through March 5.
