WVU Career Services will host all career fairs on Handshake this semester, and offer the WVU community a variety of new training resources and events designed to help students have a successful virtual career fair experience.

Faculty and staff are invited to register for a Lunch-and-Learn on Jan. 28, from noon to 1 p.m., to learn more about Career Services, the Handshake platform and how to make these resources more readily available to their students.

“Faculty are often the first contact a student goes to for information so we want to share how their students will benefit from both the Handshake platform and virtual career fairs,” said Rachael Conrad, assistant director, employer relations. “We all share a common goal to get students prepared and gainfully employed after graduation. Through our training sessions and improved virtual career fairs, we believe we can reach that goal.”

Career Services has expanded its lineup of career fairs in order to provide students with new opportunities to interact with employers online in real-time. Events new to the spring semester lineup include: the Agriculture and Natural Sciences Virtual Career and Internship Fair Feb. 23, an event that traditionally only takes place during the fall semester; The Big 12 Virtual Career Fair March 24, a collaboration with all Big 12 schools; and the Professional Education Virtual Career and Internship Fair April 7.

As with previous semesters, they will also host the STEM Virtual Career and Internship Fair Feb. 24 and the WVU Virtual Career and Internship Fair Feb. 25, in conjunction with the Chambers College of Business and Economics.

“Last year we worked quickly to adapt our career fairs to a virtual model,” said David Durham, director of Career Services. “This semester our focus is on improving our virtual events and making sure that our students, faculty, and staff have access to all the tools necessary for success in this virtual recruiting environment.”

Career Services will also host a series of events to ensure that both students and faculty are comfortable using the platform before the virtual events, including Virtual Career Fair 101 presentations, a session series on Navigating Handshake for Virtual Career Fairs, as well as Virtual Resume Review and Career Fair Preps.
