University community mourns the loss of Keith Bailey

Keith Bailey

Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning and the Dean of WVU Online Keith Bailey passed away last week after an extended battle with cancer.

“For those of us who worked with him, we knew Keith as a wonderful colleague — creative, collaborative, unfailingly positive, and always kind,” Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Maryanne Reed said. “He will be missed by many people, among them, my leadership team, his fellow deans and colleagues in WVU Online and the Teaching and Learning Commons.”

Those who wish to make a contribution or honor his memory may do so through the following:

WVU Cancer Institute Comfort Fund
The Comfort Fund’s purpose is to provide temporary assistance to oncology patients who are receiving their care at WVU Cancer Institute/Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. The fund is utilized directly by patients until they can be linked with appropriate community, state or national resources.

The Comfort Fund is available to help patients with various areas of need associated with cancer treatment including medication costs, lodging, transportation, and other supportive and social services. There is no overhead for this fund, and money donated goes directly into the Comfort Fund for direct patient assistance.

To make a donation to the Comfort Fund, please go to WVU Cancer Institute Comfort Fund and select "Comfort Fund" on the right hand side and follow the prompts from there.

Positive Coaching / Positive Sport Parenting Initiative
This new initiative is being created as a collaboration between WVU Online and the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in Keith Bailey’s memory. The idea stems from his passion for coaching Little League and dedication to creating a positive youth sport experience for coaches, players, and parents.

To make a donation to the Positive Coaching / Positive Sport Parenting Initiative, visit Give WVU - Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and select "College Special Projects" on the right hand side. Please put "IMO Keith Bailey" in the Gift Comments Box. Further down the page, please select "Dedicate this gift in honor or memory of someone" and type in Keith Bailey.

All donations will then be directed to The Center for Applied Coaching and Sport Sciences and will all be used to support the positive coaching/parenting initiative.

Faculty, staff and students are also invited to share favorite memories of Bailey (photos, stories, etc.) to the Kudo Board at his online memorial page.

At Bailey’s request, his body was donated to the School of Medicine Human Gift Registry to support WVU’s health sciences teaching and research missions. A celebration of Keith's life will be held at a later date, due to COVID-19.
