Join the Mountaineer Health Initiative for the Meeting of the Minds: The Role of Stigma in Treatment and Recovery Oct. 8 from 3-5 p.m.
Appalachia is on the front line of the opioid epidemic with stigma remains the biggest barrier to patients seeking treatment for substance use disorder. No physical or psychiatric condition is more associated with social disapproval and discrimination than substance dependence. The Mountaineer Health Initiative’s Meeting of the Minds will focus on the role that stigma continues to play in the treatment and recovery of those with substance use disorder.
WVU Addiction Studies faculty, Frankie Tack will moderate a panel of experts, front-line practitioners and those with lived experience to discuss the implications and resolutions around stigma.
