Libraries to offer Open Access and Open Educational Resources Workshops

The WVU Research Commons has put together a series of workshops to train faculty and students in publishing in Open Access resources and using Open Educational Resources in the classroom. Open Access and Open Educational Resources have become more and more popular in the area or academic and scholarly settings. 

Open Pedagogy in the Humanities

This introductory workshop will cover a range of "open" topics, from locating openly licensed texts to fostering opportunities for creative, collaborative scholarship in the classroom. Learn how adopting principles of Open Pedagogy can help you remove barriers to education and create a more inclusive learning environment.

Dispelling the Myths of Open Access:  Making Informed Choices about Open Access Publishing Opportunities

This workshop will define characteristics of open access vs. traditional publishing venues; define ways to evaluate open access journal quality, present tools available to find an appropriate journal in which to publish; and talk about WVU open access memberships and the WVU Open Access Author Fund and how they affect article processing charges for WVU authors. There will be two opportunities to participate in this workshop.

OER - Exploring Open Educational Resources

This workshop will introduce you to various open educational resources and repositories relevant for academic disciplines; provide evaluation standards and criteria for resource consideration, and provide a brief overview of the different OER permissions for adoption, attribution, and reuse.

Understanding and Using Creative Commons Licenses in the Classroom

Geared for faculty and graduate teaching assistants, this workshop serves as a primer on Creative Commons for use in the classroom. The session will guide understanding of the purpose and use of Creative Commons licenses, as well as differentiate between and understand how to choose appropriate licenses for educational products.
