WVU offers virtual tutoring for faculty and staff with school-age children

With the recent start of K-12 school year, West Virginia University recognizes many faculty and staff with school-age children are adjusting to new schedules and routines. This always is a challenging time of year for many faculty and staff with children, but it is especially difficult in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monongalia County remains in orange status, which means the school year began remotely and in-person classes will not commence until the county returns to yellow or green status. And even when in-person instruction resumes, many parents have chosen a remote learning option for their children this fall.

To support faculty and staff who may need help keeping their school-age children challenged, learning and engaged this semester, the University is offering a free virtual tutoring program for children of WVU faculty and staff enrolled in K-12 schools.

As part of the program, certified student tutors from the WVU Honors College will provide up to three hours of tutoring per week in a variety of subject areas, including:

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • English

  • Math

  • Psychology

  • Spanish

Tutoring will be completed in cohorts at scheduled times and will continue until Nov. 20.

Limited slots are available. Faculty and staff must apply for the virtual tutoring program, and criteria for consideration will be similar to those used for the WVU Faculty Childcare Emergency Relief Fund

The virtual tutoring program application form is available online.
