The Daily Athenaeum, WVU's independent student newspaper, has won 16 editorial and advertising awards from the West Virginia Press Association. In competition with 35 community newspapers across the state, the DA received seven first place, three second place and six third place awards.

DA photographers Tim Shaw and Duncan Slade and editor-in-chief Jared Serre were honored with first-place finishes. Hannah Williams won four awards for advertisements she created for DA clients and designer Maggie McLister won a first place for the in-house advertising campaign for Prospect and Price Creative, the DA's marketing firm.

The DA's April Fool's edition, which won a second place in the Special Section category, was called "hilarious" by judges.
