Patterson joins the Teachers in the Movement project at University of Virginia

Tiffany Mitchell Patterson

Tiffany Mitchell Patterson joined the research team for the Teachers in the Movement, a civil rights oral history project at the University of Virginia this summer. This oral history project explores teachers' ideas and pedagogy inside and outside the classroom during the 1950s through the 1980s.

This project is interested in learning about teachers’ involvement in local civil rights activities and their work inside and outside the classroom. In addition, this oral history project seeks to provide students, teachers, scholars and the public with important insights and information to highlight those who were integral to the civil rights movement as educators.

This summer she began collecting interviews from teachers in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. If you know an educator in one of the following areas: West Virginia, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania and Maryland or others who taught between 1950 and 1980, contact tiffany.mitchell@mail.wvu.ed.
