Reminder: Planned Downtown Campus electrical outage next Tuesday

wvu campus

WVU’s Facilities Management team is working with Monongahela Power Co. on repairs and maintenance to one of our Downtown electrical substations on June 9. This maintenance will result in an approximate 12-hour (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) outage of electrical service that will affect most buildings on the Downtown campus.

The Evansdale and Health Sciences campuses will not be affected.

In planning for the outage, the Facilities Management team focused on providing power to our most critical areas (e.g., research labs, locations used for the care of animals, sites with critical research-related refrigerators and freezers, etc.) on the Downtown campus. Existing generators, which are used for life-safety systems, will be utilized in these situations.

Backup power will be provided during the outage to locations in the following buildings:

  • Brooks Hall
  • Chemistry Research Laboratory
  • Chemistry Research Laboratory Addition
  • Clark Hall
  • Life Sciences Building
  • White Hall

Power to all other areas will be turned off during the outage, including the following buildings:

  • Armstrong Hall
  • Arnold Hall and Apartments
  • Boreman Hall (North and South)
  • Chitwood Hall
  • Colson Hall and Annex
  • Dadisman Hall
  • Elizabeth Moore Hall
  • Eiesland Hall
  • John Chambers College of Business and Economics
  • Martin Hall
  • Ming Hsieh Hall
  • Mountainlair and Parking Garage
  • Oglebay Hall
  • Purinton House
  • Stalnaker Hall
  • Stewart Hall
  • Student Services Center
  • Wise Library
  • Woodburn Hall
  • WVU Bookstore

We appreciate your patience as we perform this critical work to ensure the continued delivery of reliable electrical service to our Downtown campus.
